saturday morning vintage

weekend recap.

In college I took my camera everywhere, and as a result I have plenty of random pictures from random days.  Lately my camera has only been coming out for special occasions.  One of my goals is to start snapping more pictures of everyday life.  To get a jump start I took my camera with me everywhere on Sunday and took pictures of both the fun and mundane.

8am - Matching morning coffee.

9am - Stroll through the flea market.  Found an old milk crate to hold magazines, and a handful of vintage books.

10am - Farmer's market that has become a morning ritual on the weekend.  Came home with pretty sunflowers and a few veggies.

12noon - Few chores that weren't fun, but had to be done.

2pm - Weekly grocery shopping.  Another chore I could do without, but we like to eat!

5pm - Some time outside to water my plants.  A chore that I really enjoy.

6pm - Dinnertime!  Simple, but satisfying pasta.

7pm - Painting our hallway cabinet doors so we can get them back up and hide some clutter!

9pm - Packing orders.  This little guy is on its way to Australia!

Happy Friday!!  I'm lucky enough to have the day off so this Friday is even sweeter than most.  I'll be spending my day preparing for next month's theme for the blog and shop.  Lots of pictures to take and posts to plan.  I'm really excited about it all.  Check back next week for the monthly kick off!

Another round of brand new Etsy shops that deserve a little time in the spotlight.  This time with a focus on all things vintage.

Fun story behind the shop:  The owners inherited a two story building packed with vintage finds.  They are now going through everything piece by piece and building up their shop.  I imagine the shop will be end up with lots of really interesting things like my current favorite, the Bingo cage with wood balls.

Not a vintage shop per say, but a shop run by a graphic designer from Chicago who prints images on pages from vintage novels.  You can choose from a variety of images, or go with your initial.  I think a group of these framed would garnish a lot of attention on your wall.

I love the name of this shop, and the beautiful photography.  Retro Reading offers vintage books chosen specifically to work as decor in your home or office.  You can choose a listing by color - perhaps a set of turquoise vintage books or a more neutral mix.  If you need more and like variety you can order by the foot!  Approximately 11-14 books that measure one foot in length and come in an array of colors.  Love it.

travel month giveaway!

Happy Monday!  Hope your weekend was a good one!  I didn't make it through my "to do list", but had a good weekend nonetheless.  Perhaps it was a good weekend because I didn't make it through that list!

This week is the last (full) week of August, which also means it's the last (full) week of Travel Month at Saturday Morning Vintage.  This is the first month I've tried out the whole theme idea.  Thoughts?  Like it?  Hate it?  Had no idea it was Travel month?  I'd love to hear your opinions! 

I figured there was no better way to say goodbye to Travel month than with a giveaway!  Who doesn't like the opportunity for free stuff?  I know I do!  (Side note: A stranger randomly gave me an extra coupon she had for $5 off while in line at a restaurant on Saturday and I think it made my whole weekend!)

affordable finds.

I'm a little confused.  It's been on the chilly side all summer long in San Diego.  Overcast mornings with the sun not breaking through until noon or so, and rarely hitting 90 degrees (over even 85).  Combine that with the first sightings of Halloween decorations at the store and I was already preparing for Fall.  That is until this week when the heat and humidity came out of nowhere.  Now I'm all about embracing the last moments of summer.

This weekend I am going to start tackling that dirt pile that will eventually be my fall vegetable garden.  I'm sure I'll also spend my time in my office / craft room / shop station.  I bought a bookshelf for the space last week, and have my desk to construct tomorrow.  Some staining for the desktop and then attaching the legs.  Simple and (hopefully) perfect.

Any fun weekend plans out there?

stamp collection.

I think I'm a stamp collector.  Is that nerdy?  I think so, but I can live with it  Lately I've been picking up stamps whenever and wherever I can, and have found myself with quite the collection.

I don't know anything about values; I chose strictly by aesthetics.  While I have found some pretty neat U.S. stamps, I'm more drawn to the international ones - from places like Romania, France, and Turkey.  I think they have the best stamps.

 

Besides gazing at them, I've also been putting my stamp collection to work.  First up were some quick and easy tags.

Next up was a Muji notebook.  I went a little crazy when I visited their shop in New York last year, and have enough journals like these to last me a lifetime.

I also think it would be fun to cover the entire front cover of a journal with stamps, but haven't tried it out yet.  Maybe I should experiment with another one of these Muji ones.

If you want to get in on this nerdy hobby with me, check out your local thrifts shops.  Sometimes collectors give up on the hobby and donate all of their stamps.  Bingo!  Estate sales can also be a good source.  It's all about the hunt.  If you come up empty handed I put some in my shop.

more little things.

Pleasantly surprised (shocked, really) to find this Thank You note in my mailbox from a customer thanking me for taking the time to package her order with care.  More proof that it's the little things that really matter.
